At just around 4:00 AM on the morning of September 8th, 34-year-old Joseph Lloyd was scouting a home in the small town of Downey. His plan was to break into the home, but little did he know that his plans, along with his life, were about to go up in smoke.
Joseph Lloyd was just 2 weeks fresh out of serving time in the Bannock County Jail for felony drug charges before this incident and he was already back to his old ways. However, this time he was against someone who was up to the challenge.
Just past 4:00am Lloyd attempted to break into his targeted home but as the sounds of his attempts to get in rang through the house, the homeowner, whose name has not been released, knew exactly what was happening and just how to handle it.
The rest of the story isn’t 100% clear according to authorities. It is unknown if Lloyd made it inside his targeted home or if he was outside at the time he came face to face with the homeowner, but what is known is that at that moment, the homeowner did what he needed to defend his home and his sleeping family within. He fired his gun several times at Lloyd, striking true with his shots and killing the home invader.
Now, while at the moment Idaho is not a “Stand Your Ground” state, it is reported that the homeowner will not be charged for the death of Lloyd as it was clear to authorities that his actions were done in the defense of himself and his family. Which goes to show that in the case of stopping a threat, if you do it the right way the police should have your back.
