The Castle Doctrine is a law that basically protects homeowners who have to protect themselves from a criminal who has broken into their home. Most states respect the right of an individual to use deadly force if there is a threat of death or great bodily harm. The Castle Doctrine allows the homeowner to assume the criminal does intend such harm if they have broken into their house – at least until the criminal demonstrates otherwise.
